Census - 2001
The first census of the new millennium to know the actual number of people living in the country is over. The long and difficult process of counting the people with many other bits of information involved thousands of counting personnel across the country. The census personnel went from door to door to know every detail of a particular family. The head of the family was mainly questioned about the members of the family with their academic, financial and social status. The census personnel started their job with questioning the President and the Prime Minister at the centre and the Governor and the Chief Minister in the state. They reached to every member of every state of the country including the beggars and vagabonds living in towns cities and villages. The census personal include among other primary teachers and government officials. We are able to know, thanks to the census, accurately about our population, unemployment, illiteracy etc. The Indian population is surely going to be a staggering number of well above one hundred crores and thus India is going to be second only to China as before. The census of the new millennium did not give us any good message, rather it sends wrong signals to the world which will know that India is well behind in solving the basic issues of a country such as population explosion, poverty, and unemployment.
