Golden Jubilee Celebration Of The Quit India Movement
The Golden Jubilee celebration of the historic Quit India Movement (August Movement) was observed on 9th August, 1992 through out India. On 8th August, 1942, the All India National Congress Committee adopted the resolution at the historic Bombay session and sanctioned the starting of a mass struggle on non-violent lines for independence. Mahatma Gandhi led people and raised the 'Do or Die' slogan. The movement stirred the whole country. The next morning all top Congress leaders were arrested and put into prison. As a result, a mass protect began in every corner of the country. The British government took all repressive measures to put down the movement. National governments were formed in Tamluk, Satara and Balia. The Quit India Movement sounded the death-knell of the British rule in India.
